Im different, I feel lonely and separate from other people. They dont understand me and I dont understand them. I have felt this a lot through my life from a very young age and I know many, many of you do too, so how can so many of us feel like we don't belong? What exactly do we not belong to? Perhaps a perceived artificial system that we are all led to believe is 'normal' or that we are told its the way things are meant to be, conditioning us about how we are supposed to be living our lives, how we should express ourselves and therefore too much focus on the inner or the outer world.

I think we are all missing the point here...YES! we are all different and diversity is fundamental in our environment for humans and the rest of nature to thrive. We have a myriad of evidence that proves this from the devastation mono crop farming causes to the failings of capitalism and perpetual growth. Indeed, in nature, if one species seeks to dominate the balance is upset and nature always adjusts to compensate and bring things back into order. Ultimately we are part of nature and not separate from it. There is no hierarchy, only the fact is that living beings in optimum health who can work in harmony with what is around them survive and thrive and those that aren't don't. Diversity is fundamental to the web of life, everything in this realm performs a function, all beings have a niche and if one part is missing the web collapses.

Humans have lost that connection with each other, we have forgotten how to connect with the environment around us and also with each other. Lessons can be learned from nature in terms of our underground eco- systems, the tree roots and mycelium. The nematodes, the carbon cycle and the water cycle, how all these things interact and communicate. We can see it in the way our bodies work with its complex multi-layered systems and the nutritional needs it needs both in terms of food, physical and intellectual needs. The way in which one element supports another, a good example of this is the aphid considered by many to be a pest or plants people consider to be weeds when they actually perform vital functions in our eco- systems.

In conclusion, we as beings on this planet are well over due for a bit of evolution, our true purpose is finding our own individual calling, our Art, our niche. The thing that makes our heart sing and recognise this is not an indulgence but a necessity. Not only can we learn from nature as a whole but also from the many divergent individuals that have gone before us, the ones who given us so many insights and made breakthroughs in all kinds of different areas often at extreme detriment to themselves personally. Its not easy in todays world, a place of known unknowns and unknown unknowns its a challenge not to sink into apathy, depression and anger. However, if we can develop the ability to embrace diversity and the interconnectedness of all things and thereby harness a more simplistic flow where we can genuinely connect and communicate with each other in an authentic way....if we can truly comprehend these principles and regain a true genuine connection with each other using compassion and respect - and by each other I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US, transcending pack mentality,

We the potential to become the ultimate keystone species.

If this resonates with you....please pass it on!

I would just like to leave you with an example of learning from nature, this is what the Woodpecker taught me.....

THE WOODPECKER

Some would call it the Morn,

Some would call it the Eve:

Out of the rudiment with Spirit

Profound abstractions

Static formed by energies

being acted on by force or motion

First Chawwah, then Dyad

Forms into a Heartbeat

Rhythmic, Inviable

THE EARTHS DRUMMER

Pecking away at deception

untill the truth is revealed-

golden and invisible

The ability to find hidden layers

Soundwaves blast out like thunder

shaking awareness

Leaves us with the bedrock

a foundation on which to build,

with common clay

From aggregates to soil

choose wisely the keystone

Overstanding of rhythms, cycles and patterns

Become the keystone-

a foundation for life

provide opportunities for others to thrive

peck at whats dead to bring new life

Direct from the womb of creativity

Select you anvil with discernment

and honour it henceforth

Move through life with honour and inner strength
